Some relief from Valley heat is on the way — at least for a few days

PHOENIX – If you are tired of Valley temperatures in the 90s and 100s, relief is on the way — at least for a few days.

“We’re looking at temperatures today up into the upper 80s and lower 90s around the Phoenix area,” Mark O’Malley of the National Weather Service told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Wednesday morning. “However, much cooler weather will be coming into the region.”

Tuesday was Phoenix’s eighth consecutive day with a high in the 90s or above.

But the Valley forecast for Thursday through Saturday calls for highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s.

“Those temperatures are around 5-8 degrees below the normal for this time of the year,” O’Malley said.

Is there any rain in Valley forecast?

The cooling system will bring a slight chance for rain Friday afternoon and evening, primarily in higher terrains north and east of Phoenix.

“A few light showers could sneak down into the lower desert areas,” O’Malley said. “Most people won’t see anything, and if you do see rain, it probably won’t amount to much.”

It’s a far cry from a week ago, when Phoenix matched or broke daily heat records on three consecutive days and reached the 100-degree mark twice.

You should try to enjoy the upcoming below-normal temperatures while you can.

“This time of year, you don’t stay cool that long,” O’Malley said. “So, by early next week we’ll have high temperatures back into the upper 80s and lower 90s, which is not too far from the normal for this time of year.”
