Summer-like temperatures settling in across metro Phoenix

PHOENIX – Spring still has another month to go, but summer-like temperatures are settling in across metro Phoenix.

“We’re going to be seeing some minor-to-moderate heat risk developing across the region. … It’s going to be pretty hot out there the next few days,” Ted Whittock of the National Weather Service in Phoenix told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Tuesday morning.

In fact, the Valley forecast calls for high temperatures near or above 100 degrees at least through Memorial Day weekend.

Thursday is expected to be the hottest day of the week with a high of around 105 degrees, which would be 8 degrees above normal for the date.

“That’s around 5 degrees below what records are this time of the year,” Whittock said.

Whittock said Valley residents and visitors should start thinking about heat safety as it gets closer to summer, which officially starts June 20.

“Drink more water than you think you need and try to reduce your time outdoors during the heat of the day, so between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.,” he said.
