Phoenix breaks daily heat record for 2nd consecutive day

PHOENIX — Warmer than normal temperatures continued Tuesday as Phoenix broke a daily high temperature record for the second consecutive day.

Phoenix surpassed a three-year-old daily heat record as the temperature reached 99 degrees at Sky Harbor International Airport, which the National Weather Service uses for the city’s official readings. The previous high mark for March 25 of 96 degrees was set in 2022.

If it were just 1 degree hotter, it would have been the earliest 100-degree day ever recorded in Phoenix. Instead, the earliest date on record to reach triple digits remained March 26, 1988.

The average date for Phoenix’s first triple-digit day of the year is May 2.

How long will the heat wave in Phoenix last?

Phoenix reached 96 degrees on Monday, which broke the daily heat record of 94 degrees, which was set back in 1990.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the forecast calls for highs in the lower 90s. Temperatures are then expected to return to the normal range of the low to middle 80s starting Friday.
