Phoenix breaks daily heat record that stood since 1990

PHOENIX — A daily heat record that stood for 35 years in Phoenix was toppled on Monday.

The thermometer at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which the National Weather Service (NWS) uses for the city’s official records, peaked at 96 degrees. The previous record of 94 degrees was set in 1990.

The rest of the week could bring more record-breaking temperatures.

Could Phoenix break more daily heat records this week?

On Tuesday, the Phoenix forecast calls for a high of 99 degrees, which would break the March 25 record of 96 degrees from 2022.

If the sunny weather persists, Wednesday and Thursday temperatures could climb up to 92 degrees.

The remainder of the week could see temperatures drop back into the mid to low 80s.

Normal temperatures for this time of year range from the upper 70s to low 80s.
