It’s kind of cool now, but 100-degree weather could be coming soon to Phoenix

PHOENIX — Enjoy the cooler Valley weather while you can, because the year’s first 100-degree days could be just around the corner.

The latest Phoenix forecast calls for highs in the low 70s on Thursday and Friday, around 10 degrees below normal for this time of year, before a steady warming trend commences over the weekend.

“By middle next week, we should see high temperatures into the 90s,” Gabriel Lojero of the National Weather Service (NWS) in told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Thursday morning. “And then by late next week — so next Thursday and Friday — that’s when we’re going to have a shot of seeing triple digits.”

When does Phoenix typically see its first 100-degree day?

The average date for Phoenix to reach 100 degrees for the first time between 1991 and 2020 is May 2, according to the NWS.

Phoenix’s hottest day of 2025 so far was March 25, when it hit 99 degrees, barely missing the record for the earliest 100-degree day in a year. That record, which was set in 1988, stands at March 26.

A low pressure system has been keeping temperatures down in recent days, Lojero said. Wednesday’s high at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which the NWS uses for the city’s official readings, was just 68 degrees, 15 degrees below normal.

“This low pressure system is going to continue to produce some spotty showers for the next couple of days, so we cannot rule out this afternoon and once again on Friday a few spotty showers developing within the vicinity,” Lojero said. “Nothing really too impactful, but it could cause some brief gusty winds and maybe some minor wet roads.”
