Chandler updates water conservation incentive program with reduced rebates

PHOENIX — Chandler has updated its water conservation incentive program with lower rebates scheduled to be both “extended and amended” Jan. 1, 2026, the city recently announced.

Three sets of modifications were made by the Chandler City Council “to promote continued participation (in the incentive program) and ensure funding availability,” according to a press release.

The first update will extend the single-family grass removal rebate while reducing the square foot rebate from $2.00 to $1.50 and the maximum rebate in the process from $3,000 to $2,000. The second update will extend the large landscape grass removal rebate and drop the maximum rebate from $75,000 to $20,000.

Lastly, the “water efficient technology rebate” will be extended and its policy will detail installation costs. Pertaining to the same order of business, Chandler will reduce the rebate’s funding to $600,000 after updating its agreement with the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority of Arizona.

Both above grass removal rebate types began growing in popularity in when Chandler pushed for increased water conservation efforts through its October 2023 “drought preparedness plan.”
