Westbound Loop 101 on-ramp in Phoenix closing for 60 days

PHOENIX — An access point to the westbound Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway in northwest Phoenix is closing for 60 days due to roadwork.

The closure of the westbound 35th Avenue on-ramp was set to begin 11:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).

Advice for drivers dealing with westbound Loop 101 closure at 35th Avenue

Drivers are advised to enter westbound Loop 101 at 27th or 51st Avenues while the 35th Avenue ramp is closed.

The closure is expected to lift in mid-July.

What are the reasons for the westbound Loop 101 ramp closure?

ADOT is initiating the closure as part of a project to widen the freeway.

The purpose of this $140 million project, which started in September 2024, is to widen Loop 101 between I-17 and 75th Avenue.

Ultimately, the project will add one lane in each direction.

Additionally, ADOT will widen several bridges, resurface pavements and add new freeway lighting.

The project is expected to be finished in the spring of 2027.
