WB Loop 202 Santan Freeway on-ramp in Gilbert to close for 2 months due to scheduled roadwork

PHOENIX — Drivers who regularly use the westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway on-ramp at Val Vista Drive in Gilbert will have to adjust their daily commutes for the next two months.

That’s because of a ramp reconstruction project, according to a Monday announcement from the town of Gilbert.

The 60-day closure starts on Friday at 11:30 p.m., although this time might change depending on the weather or other factors.

Why are officials closing WB Loop 202 Santan Freeway on-ramp in Gilbert?

This project is part of a $200 million plan to widen and improve the stretch of the Loop 202 Santan Freeway between Val Vista Drive and the Loop 101 Price Freeway in both Chandler and Gilbert. Officials with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) hope expanding this portion of the freeway will cut down on growing congestion.

The finished product will add two lanes in both directions between the Loop 101 and Gilbert Road and one lane in each direction between Gilbert Road and Val Vista Drive. The renovations will cover eight miles in total.

How should drivers work around closure of WB Loop 202 Santan Freeway on-ramp?

ADOT recommends drivers use alternate on-ramps at Santan Village Parkway or Lindsay Road.

Since there will be a work zone, drivers are urged to mind the 55 mph speed limit, slow down, stay alert and merge with caution.
