No Valley freeway closures this weekend, but watch for wet roads, Tempe Oktoberfest restrictions

PHOENIX – Drivers don’t have to worry about Valley freeway closures during what’s expected to be a rainy weekend, but one Phoenix-area city is planning multiple road restrictions for a big festival.

The Arizona Department of Transportation doesn’t have any detours scheduled for improvement projects in its Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory for Oct. 10-13.

With no Valley freeway closures, what should drivers watch for this weekend?

Despite the absence of Valley freeway closures, ADOT officials are warning motorists to be prepared to slow down on wet roadways and avoid driving into areas with standing or flowing storm runoff.

Meanwhile, several streets will be closed in the Tempe Town Lake area for the annual Four Peaks Brewing Oktoberfest, a rain-or-shine event.

The following Tempe closures are scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Sunday, and more could be added to address traffic concerns that arise over the course of the weekend:

• Westbound Rio Salado Parkway from Mill Avenue to Lakeside Drive.
• Eastbound Rio Salado Parkway from Hardy Drive to Mill Avenue.
• Southbound Mill Avenue (including the sidewalk) from Curry Road to Rio Salado Parkway.
• Northbound Ash Avenue at Third Street.
• Eastbound First Street at Rio Salado Parkway.
