Eastbound US 60 reopens east of Gold Canyon following fatal wrong-way crash

PHOENIX — The eastbound lanes of the US 60 reopened near Queen Valley Saturday afternoon following a morning crash that took the life of one person.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said two vehicles were involved in a wrong-way collision that happened at 7:18 a.m. where one person died.

The resulting closure was at milepost 209 near El Camino Viejo. The Arizona Department of Transportation announced it was back open just after 1:15 p.m.

The westbound lanes were unaffected by the crash.

The collision happened east of Gold Canyon on the way out of the Valley, a few miles past the Arizona Renaissance Festival, which concluded on March 29. It was on the way to Superior and just before the State Route 79 turnoff to Florence.

ADOT advised drivers to use a different route.

State Route 79 saw its own closure between Florence and that junction on Saturday morning, with the northbound lanes affected at milepost 141 near Arizona Farms Road. The Arizona Department of Transportation announced it was back open just after 4:57 p.m.
