Watch for restrictions on Interstate 17 north of metro Phoenix this week

PHOENIX — Motorists traveling around metro Phoenix this week should watch for restrictions on Interstate 17, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).

The daytime restrictions started Monday and will impact traffic along both north and southbound lanes of I-17 in the area of Camp Verde and Munds Park, ADOT said.

From 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Wednesday the northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane near the State Route 260 interchange (milepost 287) in Camp Verde, while southbound I-17 will shrink to one lane near Munds Park (milepost 324) through Tuesday.

The closures are in place due to a sign installation project. ADOT is erecting new digital message signs as part of an ongoing project to upgrade traffic management technology along I-17 between Cordes Lake and Flagstaff.

In addition to adding fiber optic cable and several closed-circuit traffic cameras, the project will also install road weather system equipment, which will help alert ADOT and travelers about potential storm-related traffic issues.

ADOT officials expect the project to wrap up this fall.
