Pedestrian hit in collision at west Phoenix intersection has died

PHOENIX – The pedestrian struck by a vehicle in west Phoenix on Thursday has died, authorities said.

Aaron Hornedo, 36, was struck by a vehicle near 35th and Peoria avenues before 6:30 a.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Neither of the vehicles that struck Hornedo were at the scene when officers arrived to help him.

He was brought to a hospital but died from his injuries while receiving treatment, according to a Friday update from police.

What happened before pedestrian struck by vehicle in west Phoenix?

Investigators who responded to the scene found Hornedo was trying to walk inside the marked crosswalk of 35th and Peoria avenues before the crash.

Two vehicles then struck him while he was in the roadway, police said.

The intersection was closed in all directions while the scene was under investigation, impacting traffic during the morning commute.

Detectives are now seeking leads that can help them find the drivers of the two vehicles that struck Hornedo.
