ADOT opens new lane at northbound I-17 off-ramp to Loop 303

PHOENIX — Drivers taking the northbound Interstate 17 exit for the Loop 303 in north Phoenix now have more room to navigate.

That’s because a second lane leading into and along the northbound I-17 exit at Loop 303 officially opened, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).

Crews finished lane striping at the Loop 303 exit on Thursday night, ADOT said.

Earlier this week, workers also removed temporary work zone barrier walls.

Why is there a new lane at the northbound I-17 exit to Loop 303?

ADOT officials hope the new exit lane will cut down on congestion, especially during afternoon rush hours.

The $1.3 million project is a precursor to a larger project starting in 2026 that will create direct freeway-to-freeway ramps at the I-17/Loop 303 interchange.

That larger project will also widen Loop 303 between I-17 and 51st Avenue.
