Pima County officials are banning parking on several streets near Nancy Guthrie’s house

PHOENIX — Pima County officials are imposing temporary parking restrictions around the Tucson home of missing woman Nancy Guthrie, aiming to ease the congestion that has overwhelmed the Catalina Foothills neighborhood since her disappearance on Jan. 31.

Beginning Thursday, several streets in the Catalina Foothills Estates area will become no‑parking zones. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department will enforce the traffic restrictions. Violators will have to pay a $250 fine.

County officials said the move is necessary to protect public safety and give residents relief from the chaos created by the intense media presence that has surrounded the neighborhood for more than three weeks.

Why are there traffic issues in neighborhood Nancy Guthrie lived in?

Since the FBI and PCSD began their search, journalists, bloggers and online streamers have crowded North Camino Escalante with tents, generators and even satellite trucks, county officials said.

The influx has caused traffic backups, noise, and, at times, blocked roadways. One online content creator reportedly even had pizza delivered to Guthrie’s home while it remained an active crime scene.

Residents have grown increasingly frustrated by the accumulated trash and constant activity outside their homes, according to officials.

The issue is especially tricky because of the neighborhood’s narrow streets.

Last week, authorities tried to restrict North Camino Escalante to a one-way road — but it didn’t fix the congestion, noise and other issues. In fact, some media and members of the public parked on connecting roads and cul de sacs, officials said.

Pima County leaders hope the new restrictions will help restore order while the investigation continues. Details about the closures can be found on the county website.
