Ramps from Interstate 17 to Loop 101 closed this weekend for bridge work

PHOENIX – With the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project in the rearview mirror, the Valley is entering a new, lighter era of freeway detours.

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory for June 6-9 is a good example, with just one disruptive construction project.

Specifically, the ramps from both directions of Interstate 17 to the westbound Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for bridge work (times are subject to change).

Additionally, the right lane of westbound Loop 101 will be closed near 31st Avenue, and 31st Avenue will be closed in both directions where it crosses the freeway.

Why are Interstate 17 ramps closed this weekend?

The weekend closure is part of a long-term widening project on Loop 101 between I-17 in north Phoenix and 75th Avenue in Glendale.

Northbound I-17 traffic should consider exiting at Rose Garden Lane and heading west to 27th Avenue and then south to access westbound Loop 101.

Southbound drivers can take Deer Valley Road west to 27th Avenue before heading south to get westbound Loop 101 access.

Drivers in the area should be aware that the westbound Loop 101 on-ramp at 35th Avenue and off-ramp at 51st Avenue are already closed for reconstruction.

The ADOT freeway advisories won’t be filled with instructions about how to avoid Broadway Curve Improvement Project construction anymore.

After about four years of construction – and countless detours — officials celebrated the $832 million project’s official completion on Tuesday.
