Southbound I-17 reopens in Phoenix after deadly crash

The southbound lanes of I-17 have reopened near Camelback Road in Phoenix after being closed for more than 3 hours due to a crash.

PHOENIX — The southbound lanes of Interstate 17 reopened in Phoenix after being closed for more than three hours on Tuesday afternoon due to a deadly crash, authorities said.

The collision happened just before 12:30 p.m. under the Camelback Road overpass, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

It involved several vehicles, including a commercial car hauler. One person was killed and multiple others were taken to a hospital with moderate to serious injuries, the department added.

Southbound I-17 reopened around 3:45 p.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The northbound lanes were not affected.
