Early-morning SpaceX rocket launch in California could be visible from Phoenix

PHOENIX – If you are up early Wednesday — or haven’t gone to bed yet — you might have a chance to see a SpaceX rocket light up the western sky.

A mission to put 27 Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit is scheduled to launch within a four-hour window that starts just before 1 a.m. Wednesday.

When ready, a Falcon 9 rocket will lift off from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County. While that’s about 500 miles west of Phoenix, Falcon 9 flights are typically visible in the Valley if the sky is clear.

The SpaceX website will have updated information about the start time closer to the launch. It will also show a livestream if you want to watch it without venturing outside.

If you miss out, another California Starlink mission is set to launch late Friday or early Saturday.
