Chicago-based Rainbow Cone ice cream shop to open 1st Arizona location

PHOENIX — A Chicago ice cream institution that’s been serving customers for a century is about to make its Arizona debut.

The Original Rainbow Cone is opening its first shop in the Grand Canyon State in Surprise on Friday. The address is 13510 N. Litchfield Road, just south of Waddell Road.

Unlike traditional ice cream shops, Rainbow Cone doesn’t scoop its flavors — it slices and stacks them. Each cone features five layers, letting you taste multiple flavors in every bite.

A grand opening celebration is scheduled for Monday, when the first 100 guests in line will receive a free Rainbow Cone, which comprises these signature flavor layers: chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House (vanilla with cherries and walnuts), pistachio and orange sherbet.

Everyone who visits that day will also be entered into a raffle for a chance to win free ice cream for a year.

The festivities will continue Tuesday with a ribbon‑cutting ceremony hosted by the Surprise Economic Development Office at 9 a.m.
