Developer buys more land for Rio 1900 master-planned community in Goodyear

PHOENIX — A land developer recently purchased 80 acres for its Rio 1900 master-planned community in Goodyear.

The two 40-acre parcels of land that sit adjacent to Estrella Mountain Regional Park were bought by Harvard Investments during the Arizona State Land Department auction in the first week of February, according to a Monday press release.

The land acquisition will go toward the development, which is 1,940 acres in size. It will be home to several neighborhoods and businesses, with construction scheduled to begin in 2027.

The first homes in the master-planned community, of the 5,800 single- and multi-family homes that were approved by the Goodyear City Council, have an estimated completion date of 2029.

Harvard Investments first purchased the property for $22 million in 2023, with a portion also being set aside as open space.

Each residence is being purposedly built “within a five-minute walk of a park, trail or open space,” to satisfy the community’s goal of “walkability, recreation and access to nature.”

Amy Weidman, Harvard Investment’s vice president of development, said the recent land purchase will allow the company to follow through on this promise and goal.

“These parcels are strategically important to our long-term planning efforts and will help us ensure Rio 1900 is connected, thoughtfully designed and positioned for lasting success,” Weidman said.
