KTAR News holds ‘The Issues That Matter’ Town Hall to break down ballot propositions

Experts, advocates and community leaders will break down the propositions that will be on the ballot this November on Tuesday night during KTAR News 92.3 FM’s “The Issues That Matter” Town Hall.

The forum is being hosted at Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West, located at 3830 N. Marshall Way, from 6 to 8 p.m. It will be livestreamed on the KTAR News YouTube page.

The panels will put the ballot propositions into plain language for attendees and discuss what they mean for Arizonans and their families. They will also provide their perspective on the different measures.

The first panel is made up of former state Rep. Isela Blanc, former independent gubernatorial candidate Hugh Lytle and former Arizona Republican Party Chair Gina Swoboda.

They will discuss:

• Prop 141: Vehicle Mileage Tax Ban, would bar taxes, fees and mileage monitoring on vehicles based on miles driven.
• Prop 316: Grocery Tax Cap, would put a 2% cap on municipal food sales tax and require voters to approve increases.
• Prop 320: School Spending Floor, would require large school districts to spend at least 60% of their operating budget on direct instruction.
• Prop 142: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Ban, would expand a 2010 affirmative action ban to prohibit DEI policies statewide and locally.
• Prop 318: Transgender Athletes/Facilities, would restrict bathroom and locker room use and reinforce sports team eligibility by biological sex.

The second panel includes former Arizona Police Association president Justin Harris, former Phoenix Mayor Paul Johnson and former state Sen. and Arizona Democratic Party Chair Raquel Teran.

They will talk about:

• Prop 144: Voter ID, would require all voters, including mail-in, to show a valid government ID.
• Prop 319: Photo Radar Ban, would ban state and local use of photo radar traffic enforcement. There would be limited exceptions.
• Prop 317: Cartels as Terrorist Organizations, would declare drug cartels terrorist organizations and direct Arizona Homeland Security to respond to threats.

Additionally, members of the audience will be given a chance to ask the panelists questions.

The town hall is presented by Empower and in partnership with Arizona Talks.
