Gov. Doug Ducey’s approval rating falling ahead of re-election bid

PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has seen a dip in his approval rating as the percentage has dropped from 49 percent to 41 percent.

The 8-point dip comes at a crucial time for Ducey, a Republican who is up for re-election in November.

The quarterly poll, conducted by Morning Consult, shows Ducey’s 41 percent approval leaves him tied with two others at No. 37 in the nation.

With a 1 percent higher disapproval rating than approval rating, Ducey is one of six governors with a negative net approval margin heading into re-election. Of the 20 states with gubernatorial decisions coming up this November, 14 of the incumbents have a positive net approval.

Like his fellow governors in Oklahoma and Kentucky, education played a key factor in Ducey’s approval rating dip, according to the survey. Unlike Ducey, neither Mary Fallin (R-Okla.) nor Matt Bevin (R-Ky.) are facing re-election.

Of those polled, 16 percent either didn’t know or had no opinion on the approval or disapproval of Ducey’s tenure.

Charlie Baker (R-Mass.) received the highest approval rating with 69 percent. Fallin had the highest disapproval rating with 74 percent.
