Democrat Adelita Grijalva and Republican Daniel Butierez are running to represent Arizona's CD7 and will debate each other Tuesday night.
PHOENIX — The Republican and Democratic candidates running to fill the late U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva’s seat in Congress will debate on Tuesday night.
The Congressional District 7 (CD7) debate, which is being put on by the Arizona Media Association and Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission, will run from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
KTAR News will stream the debate live on its YouTube channel and air a playback on 92.3 FM and in the KTAR News app at 7 p.m.
The debate will be moderated by Steve Goldstein and Nohelani Graf.
Questions from the general public for the candidates can be submitted on the Clean Elections website.
Who is participating in Tuesday’s CD7 debate?
Democratic candidate Adelita Grijalva — Raúl Grijalva’s daughter — will face off against Republican Daniel Butierez in the debate.
Adelita Grijalva, a former Pima County supervisor, handily defeated four other Democrats in July’s primary to win the nomination.
Butierez, the owner of a painting company, defeated two other GOP hopefuls in the primary to win his party’s nomination. He also ran against Raúl Grijalva in 2024 and lost.
CD7 is a Democratic stronghold, making Adelita Grijalva the favorite heading into the Sept. 23 election.
Raúl Grijalva served in Congress for more than 20 years and represented CD7 twice, from 2003-13 and from 2023-25. He died in March from complications with his cancer treatment.
The district covers most of the Arizona-Mexico border and includes parts of six counties: Cochise, Maricopa, Pima, Pinal, Santa Cruz and Yuma. It includes parts of Tucson and Yuma and stretches as far north as Avondale, Goodyear and Tolleson in the West Valley.

And just like a monarchy their family trees don't have very many branches
Democrats like to keep it in the family. Just like a monarchy.
North Korea has the totalitarian hereditary dictatorship of the Kim dynasty, while Arizona CD7 has the Graftjalva crime family with Adelita listed as heir apparent.
