Woman rescued from abandoned mine shaft in central Arizona

PHOENIX — A woman suffered minor injuries after falling in a 20-feet-deep hole while running in a conservation area in Maricopa County over the weekend.

The hiker was located around 11 p.m. Sunday after falling in what was possibly an abandoned mine shaft, Sgt. Calbert Gillett with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

The unidentified woman had company, according to ABC15: A rattlesnake was also found in the hole, which was located in the Spur Cross Conservation Area in central Arizona.

The woman headed out on a long run around noon that day. Her father reported her missing after he did not hear from her by sundown.

The woman was given aid on the scene and refused other medical treatment. She has since been reunited with family.
