PHOENIX — A Las Vegas woman was arrested in Arizona after an open container of alcohol and drugs were allegedly found in her vehicle with children present during a traffic stop, authorities said.
According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy pulled the 32-year-old woman over on Interstate 40 on April 3 after observing her commit traffic violations, including swerving.
YCSO noted that there were three children, ages 4, 11 and 12, inside the car at the time of the stop.
Deputies learned during the investigation that the swerving was allegedly caused by the woman trying to hide an open beer can under one of the children’s seats.
In addition to the alcohol, a usable amount of methamphetamine was found inside a cigarette pack wrapped in a dollar bill after a K-9 alerted to the car, the sheriff’s office said. Authorities noted that a drug evaluation was run on the substance, and it tested positive for methamphetamine.
Deputies also learned that the woman had a nationwide extradition warrant out of Florida.
The woman was booked on various charges, including driving on a suspended license, possession of narcotic drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, open container, DUI, aggravated DUI, three counts of endangerment and three counts of child abuse, according to YCSO.
The Arizona Department of Child Safety assisted deputies with the children, who will be taken into the custody of their grandmother.
The woman’s identity was not released to protect her children’s privacy.
