Phoenix police identify man arrested after he allegedly alerted them to dead girlfriend in vehicle

PHOENIX — A man was taken into custody Tuesday morning after allegedly telling officers at a Phoenix police precinct that his girlfriend was dead in his truck, authorities announced.

Around 5 a.m., 36-year-old Josue Barreras Anaya flagged down officers outside of the Maryvale precinct, near 59th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard, and told the officers that he had shot his girlfriend, 32-year-old Jessica Guzman, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Officers then checked the vehicle and found Guzman’s body, which showed that she had been shot at least once.

Barreras Anaya was taken into custody and told officers that Guzman had been killed at their home near 71st Avenue and Thomas Road, according to police.

Officers then checked the home for additional victims, found no one inside and secured both scenes.

Barreras Anaya was booked into jail on a first-degree murder charge and is being held on a $1 million bond.

The investigation into Guzman’s death is still underway.
