Man arrested in connection with deadly Mesa stabbing in September

PHOENIX — A man has been arrested nearly two months after a deadly stabbing in Mesa, authorities announced Wednesday.

Robert Castillo, 29, was booked on charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault and probation violation in connection with the stabbing, which happened on Sept. 29 near Stapley Drive and Main Street, according to the Mesa Police Department.

Castillo is being held on a $1 million bond.

He is accused of stabbing a man multiple times before running from the scene.

The victim was hospitalized for nearly a month before succumbing to his injuries on Oct. 26, Mesa police said.

Castillo was arrested Monday after detectives served a search warrant at his home and found multiple pieces of evidence linking him to the crime.
