A Phoenix man ran a warehouse business that brought in steroid-like drugs from China in mislabeled packages, sold them across the country and made at least $3.5 million, according to federal prosecutors.

On Tuesday, he was sentenced to four months in prison.

Jeffrey McIndoo’s Phoenix-based company, SARMS Pharm, must also give up $1.8 million and shut down.

Prosecutors said Chinese manufacturers shipped the drugs, called SARMs, as powders labeled as other products so federal inspectors wouldn’t catch them. At the company’s Phoenix office and warehouse, some of the powder was mixed into injectable liquids. The drugs were then shipped to customers nationwide.

Prosecutors said the company also had employees open bank accounts under names other than the company’s, so law enforcement couldn’t seize the money.

The scheme ran from 2017 to 2022. Court records show one of the buyers, in 2021, was an undercover federal agent.

SARMs mimic testosterone and anabolic steroids and are not approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

McIndoo pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drug charge, and his company pleaded guilty to smuggling conspiracy. U.S. District Judge Sharad H. Desai also gave McIndoo a $1,000 fine and a year of supervised release. He must report to prison by Jan. 8.
