Window to donate citrus to St. Mary’s Food Bank closes at end of month

PHOENIX – If you’ve been planning to donate extra oranges or grapefruit from your trees to charity, you better start picking.

With the quality of the fruit deteriorating as temperatures rise, April 30 is the last day St. Mary’s Food Bank will accept citrus this year.

As with any food gifts, the citrus can be dropped off Mondays-Fridays at either of the two Valley St. Mary’s donation centers.

The Phoenix location (2831 N. 31st Ave.) is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the Surprise (13050 W. Elm St.) site operates from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The fruit should be clean and without leaves, stems or decay.

The food bank will start accepting citrus donations again in January 2022.
