Will it rain on the Phoenix Open’s parade this weekend?

PHOENIX – There’s rain in the Valley forecast over the coming days, but the impact on the Waste Management Phoenix Open is expected to be minimal.

The biggest concern might be that your dancing shoes will get wet after Saturday night’s festivities at the Birds Nest.

“It’s shaping up to be an active weekend, but the good news is for people going out to the Phoenix Open, Saturday especially, the busiest day, it will be cloudy, it will be right around 70 degrees, and it doesn’t look to be raining during the day,” ABC15 meteorologist Iris Hermosillo told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Thursday.

There are two weather systems to keep an eye on.

The first is due to hit late Thursday, perhaps after midnight, and bring light, scattered showers that should clear out by 9 a.m. Friday, about two hours after Round 2 of the Phoenix Open is scheduled to tee off in Scottsdale.

A second system will be stronger, Hermosillo said, bringing heavier rain to metro Phoenix and snow in high country.

“It will likely be that we see clouds throughout the day on Saturday, but the rain looks to hold off until after 8 p.m. Saturday, and especially after 11 p.m. is when I’m seeing our best potential for rain across the Valley,” she said.

That means it could be coming down after that night’s show at the Birds Next, the Phoenix Open’s entertainment venue. The evening of electronic dance music from Martin Garrix, DJ Vice and Justin Mylo will wrap up around 10:30 p.m.

“I think we should begin to dry out by mid-morning on Sunday, and then we’ll just keep a slight chance for showers going into early next week,” Hermosillo said.

The final round of the Phoenix Open is set to begin at 9 a.m. Sunday, so the golfers could have to contend with early showers and a soggy TPC Stadium Course.

The weekend system also could bring 2-4 inches of snow to Flagstaff and higher elevations, Hermosillo said, resulting in potential travel issues into Sunday morning.
