My speed is irrelevant if an inattentive person just walks directly in front of my car. They need to wait for traffic to be clear before trying to cross, especially if mid block.

That's why 10k cars shouldn't be manufactured. You'd be able to stop if you were traveling at a safe speed for busy streets. No person just walks out into traffic any more than a driver would just pull out in front of traffic.
