Man in wheelchair struck, killed on Phoenix roadway
A 73-year-old man in a wheelchair died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a south Phoenix street Wednesday night, authorities said.

A 73-year-old man in a wheelchair died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a south Phoenix street Wednesday night, authorities said.
Officers responded to the area of 21st Street and Broadway Road around 7:45 p.m. following reports of a collision, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
Officers found Ignacio Ramos Duarte in critical condition at the scene. Phoenix Fire Department crews transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Preliminary details suggest Duarte was traveling southbound across Broadway Road when he was hit. Investigators noted that he was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.
Detectives from the Vehicular Crimes Unit evaluated the driver for impairment but found no signs of intoxication.
The investigation remains ongoing.
