West Valley man sentenced to over 300 years in prison in sex crimes case

PHOENIX — A West Valley man convicted of sexually abusing multiple members of his family when they were children was sentenced to 334 years in prison, prosecutors announced Monday.

Mark Alan Rodman, 63, was sentenced Monday after being convicted of two counts of molestation of a child and 15 counts of sexual conduct with a minor, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

He received sentences of 17 years for each count of molestation and 20 years for each count of sexual conduct, MCAO said.

The case against Rodman began in April 2021, when two members of his family came forward and said he molested them multiple times between 2011 and 2014. The victims were between 7 and 11 years old at the time of the crimes.

After the pair came forward, another family member disclosed that Rodman had sexually abused him. The abuse began in 1995 when the victim was 11 years old and continued for four years, according to MCAO.

“It takes an extraordinary amount of courage to speak up against a abuser, especially one who was meant to protect you,” Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said in the announcement. “I commend the survivors for their bravery, and the prosecutors who worked this case on achieving justice. May this moment be the first step in their journey toward healing.”

Rodman’s trial began in July and concluded with him being found guilty in August, according to court records.
