Armed man killed by Goodyear police in stolen vehicle pursuit

PHOENIX — A man was shot and killed by Goodyear police on Saturday night after he allegedly pulled out a handgun while officers pursued a stolen vehicle, authorities said.
The man killed was identified Monday as 19-year-old Christian Rosas.
Just before 11 p.m. on Saturday, a license plate reader alerted Goodyear police of a stolen vehicle near Dysart Road and Interstate 10.
Upon arrival, police located the vehicle as it entered a parking lot on the southwest corner of Dysart Road and Van Buren Street.
When police approached the vehicle, Rosas allegedly got out of the car and started running northbound.
Police then began chasing Rosas, who went into the road and pulled out a handgun, Goodyear police said.
Three officers then shot at Rosas, and he was struck by the gunfire.
Police said officers provided medical assistance to Rosas after he was shot, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers subsequently collected a handgun.
Authorities confirmed no officers were injured in the incident.
The Peoria Police Department is leading the investigation into the shooting as part of the West Valley Incident Response Team.
