Police investigating west Phoenix crash that left 1 pedestrian dead

PHOENIX — One woman was hit and killed by a car early Sunday morning in west Phoenix, authorities said.

Phoenix police reported that an SUV collided with 44-year-old Rafaela Montes-Garcia in the intersection of 51st Avenue and Campbell Avenue at about 1:22 a.m.

Fire personnel arrived on the scene and confirmed Montes-Garcia’s death.

Once handed over to detectives for investigation, they learned Montes-Garcia was walking across 51st Avenue “just outside of the marked crosswalk” when the car hit her.

The unidentified female driver who hit Montes-Garcia remained on site to speak with police.

No other details are known at this time.

The investigation remains ongoing.
