2 suspects arrested in connection with robbery attempt in Phoenix that left 1 dead

PHOENIX — Two men have been arrested in connection with a robbery attempt on Friday in Phoenix that left one man dead, authorities said.

At around 4:42 a.m., police responded to a call near 27th and West Virginia avenues where officers found 55-year-old Naul Hernandez in a parking lot of a nearby gas station with a gunshot wound. Hernandez received treatment but later died on scene due to his injuries.

Upon investigation, officers identified a vehicle through surveillance videos that was similar to one that was leaving the scene of the robbery prior to the shooting. 

Police then began a search for the vehicle and found 19-year-old Isaac Lechuga at 2 p.m. at his house in connection with the case. Police continued their search for a second suspect and found Arturo Vazquez -Rodriguez, 19, near downtown Phoenix on Friday night. 

Both men were booked into jail on two counts of armed robbery and one count of first-degree murder.
