Why did a Mesa man get a speeding ticket for driving 65 in a 65 zone?

A Mesa man said a state trooper wrote him a speeding ticket on a Valley freeway this week even though he was going the limit.

The reason? He was talking on his cellphone.

Bill, who didn’t want to use his last name, told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Bruce St. James and Pamela Hughes Show on Friday that the trooper also gave him a written warning under the state’s new cellphone ban.

Trump taps former border patrol chief as ICE Director

President Donald Trump’s latest choice to lead U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is a former border patrol chief under the Obama administration who has publicly backed the president’s border wall.

Trump tweeted on Sunday that Mark Morgan “will be joining the Trump Administration as the head of our hard working men and women of ICE.” He added: “Mark is a true believer and American Patriot. He will do a great job!”

Glendale seeking input on what to do with shuttered golf course

A West Valley suburb is seeking residents’ input on what to do with a golf course that was closed because of unsafe conditions.

Glendale scheduled a May 13 town hall meeting discuss how to repurpose the open space portion of the Glen Lakes Golf Course property.

The nine-hole course off Northern Avenue between 53rd and 55th avenues was closed in November 2018 after two buildings at the 50-year-old facility were declared unsafe by inspectors.

Yuma Sector Border Patrol takes in 1,000 migrants in 2 days

One thousand migrants representing nine countries surrendered to Border Patrol agents in Yuma on Tuesday and Wednesday, likely on their way to claiming asylum.

Most crossed into the U.S. over the Colorado River, and they beat vehicle barriers on the shore.

Now, Yuma Sector Border Patrol has 1,300 migrants in custody with capacity for only 410.
