Authorities identify victims, suspect killed in stabbing that led to Gilbert Police shooting

Gilbert Police identified two victims who were killed in a stabbing over the weekend where officers fatally shot the suspect, whose name was also released.

The department said in a Tuesday update that the deceased suspect, 28-year-old Brett Eschliman, knew the victims and lived at the property where the stabbing took place.

Authorities identified the woman killed in the incident as 32-year-old Delaney Bristow and the man as 30-year-old Caleb Worley. They noted Worley was a friend of Eschliman’s and also lived on the property with the 29-year-old woman who was injured in the stabbing.

Due to the evidence gathered, detectives believe this was an isolated incident.

Details on stabbing, Gilbert Police shooting

On Saturday, officers responded to an unknown trouble call just before 11 p.m. near Lindsay and Elliot roads.

The caller told dispatchers that someone living in a detached structure on the property had been stabbed and gave police a short description of Eschliman.

Upon arrival, officers headed toward the back of the property, which contained multiple living structures and buildings, police said. As officers approached one of the buildings, they heard a woman screaming inside.

At the structure, officers encountered Eschliman. He ran further into the residence, where officers found one of the woman and Worley.

Police chased Eschliman into a bedroom, where the officer-involved shooting occurred, according to authorities.

Eschliman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Worley also died at the scene. Bristow was taken to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The second woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries and received treatment at a local hospital.

The homicide investigation is ongoing and the Mesa Police Department is leading the probe into the officer-involved shooting as part of the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team.
