Valley Metro seeks community input on 2 light rail expansion projects

PHOENIX — Valley Metro and the city of Phoenix are seeking community input on two light rail expansion projects.

Valley Metro and Phoenix are inviting residents in May to hear updates on the Capitol and I-10 West extension projects, according to a Wednesday announcement.

The Capitol Extension spans 1.6 miles and will connect the light rail from downtown Phoenix to the state capitol. The I-10 West extension is 10 miles long and will connect the light rail in central Phoenix to west Phoenix.

Where can residents provide feedback on Valley Metro projects?

The two meetings will take place at Neighborhood Ministries, which is located near 19th Avenue and Van Buren Street, on May 3 and 8.

As part of the meetings, residents will get the chance to provide feedback on how the projects connect to the state capitol and receive updates on the designs for the Capitol Extension project.

Riders can also provide feedback online on the light rail projects from May 3 through June 2.

The next Valley Metro light rail route, the 5.5-mile South Central Extension from downtown Phoenix to south Phoenix, is scheduled to open June 7.
