Valley couples throw off superstition for Friday the 13th weddings

It’s superstitious for some, not an issue for others, but today is Friday the 13th and for some couples wanting to get hitched, it’s not necessarily a deal breaker.

Tasha Work with Boojum Tree Hidden Garden Wedding and Reception in Phoenix said Fridays that fall on the 13th day of the month are still popular.

“We’ve had a few that we didn’t end up booking in the past eight years that I’ve worked here, but, for the most part, we have sold all of the Friday the 13ths that have been available, except for July and August, for which we’re not open,” she said.

Work said discounts may be available for those considering the date but are hesitant to book it because of the bad-luck reputation.

“If the date is approaching and we still haven’t booked an event on that date, we would consider offering a discount to give the bride and groom an incentive to go with that date,” she said.
