Two Valley boys selected for US Club Soccer international tour

PHOENIX – Two Valley boys were chosen for the U.S. Club Soccer’s 2019 id² National Selection International Tour.

Haroun Conteh of Glendale and Alexander Lopez Hernandez of Mesa were two of the 18 players selected nationally for the tour.

The players are selected based on “extensive scouting” and participation in the U.S. Club Soccer’s id² Program.

According to the release, the roster is made up of the top 18 players born in 2005.

The group will travel to Belgium and France at the end of this month as part of the tour.

The team will play friendly matches against top soccer clubs and travel throughout neighboring countries, according to the release.

The club’s head coach, Gerry McKeown, has played with several international soccer clubs including FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City and many more.

“We are looking forward to embarking on another European journey of discovery,” McKeown said in the release.

“We get to learn a lot about these players while being tested by the world’s best. More importantly, the players learn a lot about themselves. Sometimes these experiences can be the catalyst for self-belief.”

The U.S. Club Soccer is a nonprofit organization that works to “foster the growth” of soccer clubs nationally.
