2 men jailed after recovering from gunshot wounds sustained while fleeing from Phoenix Police

PHOENIX — Two suspects injured by Phoenix Police gunfire have been released from medical treatment and booked into jail for charges relating to a crime that took place earlier this month, authorities said.

Two officers with the Phoenix Police Department fired at Christopher Lamar Taylor and Montel Dion Anderson on Feb. 12, injuring them.

Before the shooting, Taylor, 20, and Anderson, 32, were in a white SUV in the area of 29th and Northern avenues. Officers assigned to the Cactus Park Precinct they tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver pulled away at a high rate of speed, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

What led to police-involved shooting that left two suspects injured?

While pulling away, the driver of the SUV drove toward an officer, at which point two officers opened fire, police said.

Despite the gunfire, the driver of the SUV allegedly continued driving away. Multiple officers gave chase.

The vehicular chase continued to the area of 59th and Northern avenues, at which point the passenger left the SUV and ran to a nearby apartment complex, police said.

The driver stayed in the vehicle and kept driving until he crashed. Police then arrested him.

The passenger who fled was later arrested after police set up a perimeter around the apartment complex.

Police did not specify which man was the driver and which man was the passenger.

How are the men doing now?

The two men have been booked into jail and currently face multiple felonies related to this incident, according to a Wednesday news release from the Phoenix Police Department.

No officers were injured in the shooting.
