Tucson border agents seize $500K of hard drugs from modified aircraft

PHOENIX — Tucson Sector border agents seized nearly $500,000 worth of methamphetamine and fentanyl from a modified aircraft Thursday night.

Air and Marine Operations agents detected an unknown aircraft entering the U.S. southeast of Tucson around 11 p.m, according to a press release.

Agents tracked its flight path and found it abandoned along a dirt road. Two large plastic storage containers full of drugs were strapped to the vehicle.

The drugs and aircraft were taken to the Nogales Border Patrol Station, where agents found the packages contained more than 143 pounds of meth and 200 grams of fentanyl.

Agents searched the area but did not find the pilot of the aircraft.
