Trump plans to appoint 2 Arizonans to educational board in administration

PHOENIX – President Donald Trump announced plans to appoint two Arizonans to posts on an educational board in his administration on Tuesday.

Marina DeWit, a regional representative with the federal Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy, and Larry Schweikart, a historian and author from Mesa, are slated to join the National Board for Education Sciences.

Duties of the group of 15 include making recommendations to the leaders of the Institute of Education Sciences, the National Education Centers and the commission of Labor Statistics, among others.

The appointments require consent from the Senate.

DeWit currently oversees the needs of small-business owners in Arizona, California, Nevada, Hawaii and Guam in the agency’s Region 9.

Additionally, her husband, Jeff DeWit, was state treasurer from 2015 to 2018, and served as chief operating officer for Trump’s reelection campaign.

Schweikart was previously a professor at the University of Dayton for over 30 years before he retired in 2016.
