Buckeye traffic stop leads to seizure of meth, 1 pound of heroin and 100 fentanyl pills

PHOENIX — A recent traffic stop in Buckeye led to the seizure of a variety of illegal drugs, including 100 fentanyl pills, and a handgun, authorities said.

The seizure started after an officer with the Buckeye Police Department pulled over a driver near the area of 4th Avenue and Alarcon Boulevard before 5 p.m. on March 6.

The officer pulled over the driver due to various civil traffic violations, including failing to stop at a stop sign, police said.

The driver, 50-year-old Gabriel Herrera, was a prohibited possessor, which refers to a person who is forbidden from carrying firearms due to being found to constitute a danger to themself or others.

What drugs were seized in traffic stop in Buckeye?

Although Herrera denied having any weapons in the truck, a revolver fell to the ground while he was getting out of his vehicle, police said.

Officers searched his vehicle and found methamphetamine, 100 fentanyl pills and bags that contained 1.3 pounds of heroin.

Police arrested Herrera on drugs and weapons charges.
