Tolleson man indicted for online threats against Donald Trump

A federal grand jury on Tuesday indicted a man from Tolleson, charging him with, among other things, making death threats against President-elect Donald Trump.

PHOENIX — A federal grand jury on Tuesday indicted a man from Tolleson, charging him with, among other things, making death threats against President-elect Donald Trump.

Per the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona, the complaint alleges that Manuel Tamayo-Torres threatened to kill Trump on a social media post and that he also threatened to “do violence” to members of his own family.

In one social media post, Tamayo-Torres displayed a firearm in the context of making threatening statements. Officials later found that gun, plus others, in his home.

Tamayo-Torres was arrested on Nov. 25 in San Diego.

He is in custody pending a hearing in the District of Arizona.

Tamayo-Torres was convicted of a felony in 2003. An order of protection was issued against him in July of 2023. That order required him to stay away from his ex-wife.

He allegedly tried to buy guns twice in November of 2023, claiming that he wasn’t a convicted felon and that he was not the focus of an order of protection.

If convicted, Tamayo-Torres faces a maximum penalty of up to 45 years in prison and could be fined more than $500,000.
