Toddler in critical condition after near-drowning

PHOENIX — A 1-year-old boy was in critical condition Monday after being found in a pool near 59th Avenue and Thomas.

Larry Nunez with the Phoenix Fire Department were visibly upset when authorities arrived at the scene.

“The house did have a fence,” he said. “Apparently they had some issues with the fence and the kid was able to get through and make it into the swimming pool.”

The boy was taken to a local hospital.
