Tempe seeks public input about design for bicycle trail improvements

PHOENIX – Tempe has moved into the final design phase for improvements to a segment of bicycle trail in the East Valley suburb.

The project will gussy up 3.5 miles between U.S. 60 and Warner Road along the alignment of Country Club Way.

Plans include public art, shade nodes, landscaping, improved crossings and enhanced bikeways and sidewalks, the city said in a press release.

The addition of bike lanes won’t reduce the number of lanes for motor vehicles.

Several regional multi-use paths will connect to the project when it’s completed.

Members of the public can view design plans and provide feedback during a virtual meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday.

A previous meeting was held Wednesday. The virtual meetings are being recorded so they can be posted online.

The city also is taking community input online through Oct. 7.

Public meetings about the refined designs will be held early next year, with construction expected to begin in 2022.

The Maricopa Association of Governments awarded a $82,500 grant for preliminary design work on the project, which is part of Tempe’s 2015 transportion plan and 2040 master plan.
