Tempe Boat Cruisin’ bringing cycle boat experience to Tempe Town Lake

PHOENIX — You may start to see a different kind of vessel floating across Tempe Town Lake beginning in January.

Arizona Party Bike is taking to the water with a new venture: Tempe Boat Cruisin’, which was developed in partnership with the City of Tempe.

Tempe Boat Cruisin’ will fuse cycle boats with an interactive and social escapade to offer a new way for locals and visitors to familiarize themselves with the lake and its surrounding landmarks.

Each boat has a captain, crew and capacity for 26 passengers. The passengers will help the boat along with 12 pedaling stations, but the vessels also feature a quiet, electric motor that keeps it going when those pedaling tire out.

Alcoholic drinks will be available to purchase at the on-site store, and there will be a professional crew to help ensure safety where drinks and water are involved.

The service will offer both public and private reservations, with music to complement the scenic views.

Final boat testing for the experience is underway.

Those interested in a voyage can apply for early access to sign-ups, with the first boats expected to pedal away in late January.

Tempe Boat Cruisin’ adds to lake revitalization

The City of Tempe has been engaged in recreation efforts around the lake throughout this decade, and Tempe Boat Cruisin’ is one of the next steps in that.

Councilmember Nikki Amberg, who leads the lake’s revitalization subcommittee, said the boat service will help in the city’s efforts to offer “distinctive experiences at Tempe Town Lake.”

“There is no better way to enjoy the lake than from the water, and these cycle boat cruises are sure to become a premier addition to our tourism and recreation offerings,” Amberg said in a press release.
