MCSO takes a suspect into custody following hourslong standoff in Peoria

PHOENIX — A SWAT standoff that started in Peoria on Tuesday morning ended when the suspect was taken into custody during the afternoon, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the area of Grand and 91st avenues shortly after 10 a.m. in response to reports of gunfire within the residence, MCSO said.

The suspect allegedly barricaded himself inside and fired shots through an upstairs window.

How did MCSO arrest suspect in Peoria SWAT standoff?

During negotiations, the suspect allegedly said he was coming out.

However, as he came out the front door several times, he kept stepping back into the house, MCSO said.

He eventually came out far enough for the SWAT team to send a police dog as well as 40mm rubber bullets, which enabled them to take him into custody, MCSO said.

The man was brought to a hospital for treatment for his injuries, which authorities described as minor.

Detectives are currently investigating the scene.
