Suspect arrested in connection with central Phoenix shooting that left man dead

The Phoenix Police Department identified the man who was killed as 22-year-old Julio Angel Osife Diaz.

A 21-year-old was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a man early Saturday morning in central Phoenix, authorities said.

The Phoenix Police Department identified the man who was taken into custody as Jaheime Rashard Brown and the deceased man as 22-year-old Julio Angel Osife Diaz.

Officers responded to a business in the area of 16th Street and Thomas Road for calls that Brown had shot Diaz during an argument.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Diaz suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

Brown approached officers and admitted he was involved in the incident.

Detectives determined from witness statements and other evidence that Brown approached and confronted Diaz before the argument escalated and the shooting occurred.

Police recovered the firearm at the scene and Brown was booked into a jail on a second-degree murder charge.
